Engagement: Contractual
Duration: 12 Months (Extendable, Long-term with Marc Ellis)
Job Summary:
The Senior Infrastructure Monitoring Engineer is responsible for managing, maintaining, and enhancing enterprise monitoring platforms within complex banking IT environments. The role ensures high availability, proactive monitoring, performance optimization, and continuous improvement of monitoring systems supporting mission-critical banking infrastructure and applications.
Education & Experience:
- IT-based degree, University degree, or equivalent qualification in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline
- Minimum 8 years of experience in infrastructure monitoring, observability, or enterprise monitoring engineering roles
- Proven hands-on experience managing and supporting monitoring platforms within complex, production-grade IT environments
- Very good knowledge of banking IT systems, applications, and banking production environments
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and manage enterprise monitoring solutions using Icinga 2, Nagios, and Grafana
- Configure monitoring for Windows & Linux servers, databases, and application servers
- Maintain High Availability (HA) Icinga/Grafana clusters, including patching and upgrades
- Implement monitoring integrations using JMX, SNMP, Syslog, HTTP/HTTPS, and related protocols
- Develop and maintain custom monitoring scripts using Python, Bash, and PowerShell
- Troubleshoot and resolve Linux and Windows server performance issues
- Monitor and optimize database performance across PostgreSQL, SQL Server, Oracle, and MongoDB
- Support production stability and continuous monitoring improvements
Technical Skills:
- Icinga 2: Configure and manage host/service checks, develop custom plugins, manage distributed/HA setups, and optimize alerting configurations
- Nagios: Implement and maintain monitoring checks, configure thresholds, manage notification policies, and support legacy monitoring environments
- Grafana: Build and maintain dashboards, configure data sources, manage alert rules, and administer HA Grafana clusters including upgrades and performance tuning
- InfluxDB – Nice to Have: Manage time-series data storage and optimize performance for monitoring metrics
- Monitoring Protocols (JMX, SNMP, Syslog, HTTP/HTTPS): Implement protocol-based monitoring across infrastructure and applications
- Windows & Linux Server Monitoring: Monitor system health metrics and support production performance troubleshooting
- HA Icinga/Grafana Cluster Maintenance: Perform patching, upgrades, and failover validation to ensure resilience
- Python / Bash / PowerShell: Develop automation scripts and custom monitoring checks using file operations, regex, and API integrations
- Database Monitoring (PostgreSQL, SQL Server, Oracle, MongoDB): Configure database health checks and monitor performance metrics
- ITSM & Incident Management Exposure: Support alert integration and participate in incident resolution and RCA processes
