Job Title: Design Technologist (Android)

Location: Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Engagement: Contractual

Duration: 6 Months (Extendable | Long-term on Marc Ellis Payroll)

Job Summary:

A Design Technologist in the Android design systems team acts as the bridge between product designers and Android engineers, helping build consistent, scalable, and high-quality mobile experiences. This role is ideal for someone who can take design ideas and Figma prototypes and convert them into reusable, production-ready Jetpack Compose components that power the Android UI across products.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with designers to translate high-fidelity UI designs into interactive, reusable Jetpack Compose components.
• Build and maintain Android design-system components, ensuring visual and functional consistency across applications.
• Develop accessible (WCAG 2.1 compliant), performant, and responsive Android interfaces, with support for internationalisation and localisation.
• Implement and maintain design tokens using tools such as Figma Tokens, Token Studio, and Style Dictionary.
• Align with Material Design 3 and Android theming principles to deliver cohesive user experiences.
• Document component usage, contribute to the internal style guide, and support ongoing system governance.
• Work within Agile teams, actively participating in sprints, ceremonies, and design-development handoffs.
• Collaborate closely with Android engineers to define scalable UI architecture and component APIs.

Requirements & Skills:

Experience & Qualifications

• 2–5 years of experience in Android development, UX engineering, or similar roles.
• Hands-on experience working with or contributing to a design system.
• Bachelor's degree in HCI, Interaction Design, Computer Science, or a related field preferred.

Technical Skills

• Proficient in Kotlin and Jetpack Compose.
• Solid understanding of Material Design 3, Android theming, and UI component architecture.
• Experience with design token frameworks and plugins (e.g., Figma Tokens, Style Dictionary).
• Strong grasp of mobile accessibility best practices (WCAG 2.1, TalkBack).
• Hands-on with Android Studio, Gradle, and Git version control.
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies.

Design & UX Skills

• Advanced skills in Figma — components, tokens, libraries, and prototyping.
• Strong sense of visual design, interaction, and motion tailored to mobile platforms.
• Understanding of UX principles, inclusive design, and usability standards (e.g., ISO 9241).

Soft Skills
